White Album played by Cheney, Rogers, Jamieson and Pyke

As we reported a couple of weeks back, Tim Rogers (You Am I), Chris Cheney (The Living End), Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon) and Josh Pyke are teaming up to pay tribute to the 40th Anniversary of The Beatles' White Album.

There'll a series of concerts in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in August.

According to Tim Rogers the four musos have only just started talking about how they'll actually tackle playing the album live.

"It's quite up in the air. My approach personally is that I would not like to represent the album as it is recorded. I think that that's a little slavish, or a little un-interesting to me. The songs are kind of intriguing because the characters of each of the members of that band are so thoroughly disparate on this record. I think it's a really good opportunity to kind of mess with it."

The White Album is a double album of 30 songs, with contribution from each of the four band members. Songs include Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Back in the U.S.S.R., Happiness Is a Warm Gun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter, Why Don't We Do It in the Road? and Revolution 9.

Cheney, Jamieson, Rogers and Pyke will be backed by 17 players including guitars, strings, horns and two drummers.

Tickets are on sale Friday May 22.

Here are the dates and venues:

Tue 4 August - Hamer Hall, Melbourne
Thu 6 August - Brisbane QPAC
Fri 7 August - Sydney Opera House
Sat 8 August - Sydney Opera House

40th anniversary? It came out in 1968.

It's (shamefully?) the only album by The Beatles that I own on CD... and I love it quite a lot, but I would think most of it is too bizarre (or bizarre mixtures/contrasts) for most people.

Yeah, this intrepretation could be interesting, but I'd be reluctant to pay money or go out of my way to experience it.
