....and even though he hasn't played with them for a few years, Buckethead is all over the album - Axl is a smart man to not take his parts out (as he did with previous guitarists, incl. Brian May's tracks) good times.

As is Brains parts (who is a member of the band, but inactive?? go figure).

I'm really surprised how much of it I actually really liked as well.

Some of the songs are fantastic BUT there is no way in hell that this is a GnR album. Not even a little bit. There are just way too many poppy and hip hop elements in there to even have this record sitting on the same shelf as an Gunners cd.

I think Axl would have had more success (and less people laughing at him) had he released this as a solo album or different band name.

The lyrics on this are pretty horrible. Axl really is still very upset about the break up of the band. And he's REALLY trying to convince us he's alright. It's very sad.

But his orchestrations are absolutely beautiful.

The guitar solos are not catchy at all and this is what (I think) made a lot of GnR tracks so cool - ie. SLASH. He'd write solos you could sing along to! The solos on this album are basically just a whole pile of shredding and there's nothing memorable about any of it.

What is even better is that it is a trilogy of albums!
The other two - although already finished will not see day light for a while (18-24 months apart) though.

Oh, cruel delicious irony. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the ‘new’ Guns N’ Roses opus Chinese Democracy won’t be available for sale or distribution in China due to its title.

The Communist Party-backed Global Times newspaper published a story on Monday under the headline ‘American Band Releases Album Viciously Attacking China’. The article linked the album to a greater Western effort to use democracy as “just one of their game pieces to control the world.”

While it’s not unthinkable that Axl Rose is part of a conspiracy to control the world, his choice of title may be a little more arbitrary. Stuff.co.NZ recalls a 1999 interview in which Rose muses on the meaning of Chinese Democracy. “Well, there’s a lot of Chinese democracy movements, and it’s something that there’s a lot of talk about,” he said. “It’s something that will be nice to see. It could also just be like an ironic statement. I don’t know, I just like the sound of it.”

According to the Journal, fans of the Gunners in China have been speaking about Chinese Democracy on internet forums, using code and “cryptic language” to befuddle censors.

Hath Hell frozen over? I honestly didn't think it'd be this soon before Chinese Democracy saw the light of day. And if you take more than 15 years to release an album, does that make you worse than Axl Rose?

I agree that it should titled as a solo album instead of all that Hoo Hah about getting the Guns 'N' Roses name.

I don't actually like Axl Rose though. Just all the other dudes, especially the Finckster and Brain.
