SILVERCHAIR'S Daniel Johns has encountered laryngitis at the worst possible time - during a live performance on the Jay Leno show.
The singer clearly struggles to be heard as he tries to complete his song before a US TV audience in the millions.
The band has been forced to postpone four US shows as a result of Johns's throat infection.
A statement on the Silverchair website said the frontman caught the bug after flying from Sydney to Los Angeles, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles over just four days. It noted the laryngitis "severely impeded his vocal performance on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Tuesday".
The statement added that while Johns's doctor "had initially been hopeful that Daniel's laryngitis would clear up in a day or two", he has since advised that the rocker should "avoid singing for four to six days in order to be guaranteed of making a full recovery".
"The doctor also advised that singing during this time could risk permanent damage to Daniel's voice so the band has no choice but to reschedule these four important shows and to sincerely apologise to those who will be inconvenienced by this change of plans," it said.
