I just realized you work as a legal secretary

and I'm a receptionist in a law firm (which includes doing legal secretary work when the other two secretaries are overwhelmed with work)

How big is the firm you work for? Do you have many people working with you?

Seriously, I work in a house... This law firm has a total of 4 lawyers, one junior lawyer working on his bachelor and 2 legal secretaries, mind you one of them is also the accountant. Big place!

and it really is a house, a historical site in Old Dorval.

The reception area... is a living room LOL but it's nicely decorated with purty paintings. :roll:

What area of law is it that the lawyers deal in? Criminal, Labour, Civil, ect.?

Ours is Criminal and Labour law. Sometimes you get to see cases you really didn't want to know about

Since Australia is part of the Commonwealth, are the cases "Her Majesty the Queen v. [insert defendants name here]"?

Interesting info: In Quebec (I'm guessing France as well) but not the rest of Canada, because only Quebec is required that everything be done in French; Lawyers/Attorneys have titles. They're called "Maitre" which translated is Master.

Philip: Did you just cal me Master? :lol:

Me: Um...

Yes.
Philip: There is no title in English, it's only in French that you use a title. :lol:

Me: Oh...

My firm is only a small place also - total of about 10 staff; 5 Attorneys, 4 secretaries and receptionist.

It's a Patent & Trade Mark Attorney firm so it's pretty boring stuff - no juicy cases.

And there's nothing to with the Queen other than it says "Commonwealth" on some of the forms.

My office is nice and smack bang in the city in a big tall building.

Isn't Canada part of the Commonwealth? Are you saying the cases in Canada have that?

I really should find out more info about the country I plan on living in for 6 months.

@ BustyB: What do Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys actually cover? Is it only patents and trade marks? And what specifically would a usual case involving a P&T attorney involve? I assume filing patents and copyright arrangements.
