Oasis star Noel Gallagher was attacked and injured during chaotic scenes at a concert in Toronto on Sunday night after a man stormed the stage and pushed the rock star over.
The fan got past security at the Virgin Festival show, running across the stage and pushing the guitarist from behind, causing him to fall down.
The video of the incident posted on YouTube shows Gallagher, 41, falling forward onto his guitar and almost into the audience. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUq46zRPJUI
The man was swarmed by security guards with one tackling him to the ground.
Brother Liam, 35, who was singing the band's hit song Morning Glory at the time, also rushed the assailant, threatening to punch him.
He was then dragged to the side of stage by security with the Manchester band putting their instruments down and following closely behind.
The band's website said Gallagher, "fell heavily on to his monitor speakers".
"Despite his injuries, Noel returned to the stage a few minutes later to complete the band's set, but was taken to hospital after the show to be examined for a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage," it said.
The website also said the unidentified man ran from the back of the stage.
He was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault.
A spokesman for the band came out to front the shocked and rowdy crowd and assured them the band would return to the stage play the rest of the show.
The show was stopped for 15 minutes in total.
Oasis were headlining the Canadian V Festival at Toronto Island Park in front of about 40,000 people.
"It really knocked the momentum out of the show. People were just asking each other in disbelief 'did Oasis just get attacked onstage?'. People were just genuinely shocked by it," a witness at the concert told British music website NME.com.
"He finished the show like a pro, but you could see from his body language the incident had really shook him up," they said.
It is unknown if the incident will result in the cancellation of any upcoming shows.
This in not the first time Gallagher has been assaulted on stage. In 1994 a fan got through security during a Newcastle performance and punched him in the face.
Oasis are currently touring to promote their soon to be released seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul.
Oasis shot to fame in 1994 with their chart topping debut album Definitely Maybe. Since then all five other albums have reached the top spot in the UK charts.
