After Thom Yorke dashed our hopes of an eighth Radiohead album, guitarist Ed O’Brien has come to the rescue. Yorke told The Believer magazine in August that recording together after the arduous process of In Rainbows would “kill us”. Now it seems they’re willing to take the risk.
This week, O’Brien emphatically announced to NME, “We were misquoted. WE WILL BE MAKING AN ALBUM!” A full record will “definitely” be released next year in physical form, even if it does appear first as a download.
“We’re going into the studio in winter,” O’Brien continued to NME, referring to the band’s base in Oxfordshire. “It’s always miserable! Are we at the whim of the seasons? We are! When you’re in a studio in the countryside, the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is.”
