Maintaining their furious work ethic, The Mars Volta will release a follow-up to The Bedlam In Goliath this June. The new album, the band’s fifth in less than six years, has been given the very Mars Volta title of Octahedron.
A visit to Wikipedia reveals an octahedron is a polyhedron with eight faces, but of course you knew that already. The tracklist includes all the syntactical trademarks of a Omar ‘n Cedric adventure: highlights being Cotopaxi, Halo of Nembutals, Copernicus and Luciforms. It’s been just over a year since the release of The Bedlam In Goliath, which was praised by FL’s reviewer as “another volcanic explosion of psychedelica, prog rock, jazz, funk and Latin sounds.”
The Mars Volta is set to take its brain-bending live show to San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival in August, joining a line-up that also includes Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Incubus and Ween. Octahedron arrives in Australia on 22 June through Mercury Records.
