Never one to censor his thoughts, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has given Arcade Fire a verbal beating this week in an interview with Rolling Stone. According to Rolling Stone’s ‘Smoking Section’, Coyne was speaking to the interviewer about influential musicians like Brian Eno and Radiohead – when the topic of sanctified indie darlings Arcade Fire came up. A nerve was obviously struck.
“I’m a fan of them on one level, but on another level I get really tired of their pompousness. We’ve played some shows with them and they really treat people like shit,” Coyne revealed. “Whenever I’ve been around them, I’ve found that they not only treated their crew like shit, they treated the audience like shit. They treated everybody in their vicinity like shit.”
The indictment didn’t stop there, either. “People treat Arcade Fire like they’re the greatest thing ever and they get away with it,” flamed the Flaming Lips man. “Those sort of opinions change my view of their music. They have good tunes, but they’re pricks, so fuck ‘em.”
You can read the rest of the rant HERE. Arcade Fire has apparently declined to comment. Perhaps they will respond in song?
