Excuse me if I'm being too nosy. ;)

We don't work on copyright issues - that's a whole other thing on its own and usually relates more to writings, audio, etc.

Patents are for actual inventions either for a physical product or a method of doing something. So if someone has come up with an invention, they'll come to us to get it protected which involves a number of steps (including application, examination, response, further examination if necessary, acceptance) to complete the registration process. We file both Australian and International patent applications.

Same with tm's and designs (eg. a new design for a torch - having features which are novel and innovative).

We also often deal with Oppositions where someone else will oppose an application because they already have a similar idea or in the case of tm's it's commercially deceptive etc. We will then have to compile evidence of the use of the trade mark and work out who used it legally first.

Ah, thanks for the info. :) I didn't know that copyright issues were separate to patents and trademarks. ^^b

Now I should ask amunhra what type of case her firm works on (in general). :P I wonder if they ever deal with murder. :o

It's a Patent & Trade Mark Attorney firm so it's pretty boring stuff - no juicy cases.

And there's nothing to with the Queen other than it says "Commonwealth" on some of the forms.

My office is nice and smack bang in the city in a big tall building.

Are the people you work with nice? :D

I'm not sure how your lawfirm works so it's hard for me to make sense of what I'm talking about with the Queen thing. I'll find out tomorrow what a "Requete" is in English and see if you file procedures for hearings the same way we Canadians do. Then again cos it's not in the same line of law it might just be completely different.

As for Murders Zanana, we do and the newest cases are a case of impaired driving causing death and a pedo-rapist :| Like I said sometimes you don't want to know about the cases. Especially since I have to be all nice and diplomatic to some dude pleading guilty at sleeping with his neice of 13 years of age :?

Unfortunately, Chantal's (without an e :P the other legal secretary is Chantale <- with an e) mom is really ill and she had to go to Abitibi in northern Quebec so I'm typing up the procedures and aquirring the cases needed to support the evidence so I'm looking at some pretty moral altering stuff at the moment. *shrugs*

I'll answer the case thing about the queen tomorrow, I have to get some sleep as I'm getting up in 5 hours ;)
